For the EuroShop RetailDesign Award 2023, 103 proposals from 31 countries were submitted, 42 nominees reached the final round.

The winners 2023 are:

Interspar am Schottentor in Vienna (Category Food), Tessuti Liverpool One in Liverpool (Category Fashion & Lifestyle), Coolblue in Dusseldorf (Category Digital), Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau in Vila Nova de Gaia (Category Hospitality), Adidas Terrex Flagship Store in Munich (Category Sustainability).

Nach mehr als drei Jahren Planung und Umbau hat Interspar mit der im Mai 2021 eröffneten Filiale dem ehemaligen Sitz des Wiener Bankvereins „Haus am Schottentor“ neues Leben eingehaucht.

Das denkmalgeschützte Gebäude aus der Gründerzeit gilt bis heute als Orientierungspunkt für Bankneubauten in ganz Europa. Ziel von Interspar war es, die historische Substanz des Gebäudes zu erhalten und an die Anforderungen der neuen Nutzung anzupassen. Für die notwendigen Installationen wurden Materialien aus der Erbauungszeit mit moderner Technik kombiniert und ein optisch identer Doppelboden über dem vorhandenen Marmor eingebaut. Der Schwerpunkt der Filiale liegt auf Snacks und warmen Speisen, die etwa ein Drittel des Sortiments ausmachen.

Sie soll vor allem städtische und studentische Kunden sowie Mitarbeiter aus den umliegenden Büros ansprechen. Auf rund 1700 Quadratmetern bietet die Filiale unter anderem Panini, regionales Dry-Aged-Beef und regionalen Fisch an.

Neu ist auch das Restaurantkonzept „Mezzanin“, das erste à la carte Restaurant der Supermarktkette.

After more than three years of planning and renovation, Interspar has breathed new life into the former headquarters of the Wiener Bankverein “Haus am Schottentor” with this store, which opened in May 2021. The listed building from the Wilhelminian period is still considered a landmark for new bank buildings throughout Europe.

Interspar’s goal was to preserve the historic substance of the building and adapt it to the requirements of the new use. For the necessary installations, materials from the time of construction were combined with modern technology and a visually identical second floor was installed over the existing marble. The branch focuses on snacks and hot meals, which make up around a third of the range. It is intended to attract mainly urban and student customers as well as employees from the surrounding offices. Covering approximately 1.170 sqm, the store offers panini, regional dry-aged beef and regional fish, among other things. Another new feature is the “Mezzanin” restaurant concept, the supermarket chain’s first à la carte restaurant.

Zentralheizung, Telefonplätze, elektrisches Licht: Im Eröffnungsjahr 1912 galt das Hauptgebäude des Wiener Bankvereins an der Ring-straße als modernstes Bankhaus seiner Zeit. Dreh- und Angelpunkt war die ehrwürdige Kassenhalle im Erdgeschoss des Prachtbaus.
Heute wird hier Geld ausgegeben statt angespart – vor Kurzem ist ein Nobel-Supermarkt eingezogen. Unter den wachsamen Augen des Denkmalamts setzten Kulmus Bügelmayer Interior & Architecture aus Dornbirn hier ein anspruchsvolles Ladenbaukonzept um.

Central heating, telephone stations, electric light: in 1912, the year it was opened, the main building of the Wiener Bankverein was considered the most modern bank of its time. The focal point was the venerable teller hall on the ground floor of the magnificent building.

Today, money is spent here instead of saved – a posh supermarket recently moved in. Under the watchful eye of the monument preservation authority, Kulmus Bügelmayer Interior & Architecture from Dornbirn implemented a sophisticated shopfitting concept.
